Although Coaches and Players can begin fundamentals training via video, No new guidance by IHSAA or IGHSAU on start of Baseball or Softball seasons.
With the cancellation of all spring sports (track, golf, soccer), the Iowa High School Athletic Association has added stipulations regarding the start of summer athletics.
According to a release from the IHSAA, summer sports continue to be suspended “pending an assessment made in collaboration with state officials before June”. This does leave room for coaches to still “coach” their athletes. Right now, pitching and catching for baseball and softball may be done by video instruction. Beginning on May 1st, softball players can begin to be coached by video in fielding and May 3rd will start fielding instruction for baseball players.
The 2020 summer sports season was slotted to begin on May 1st for softball and May 3rd for baseball. With these uncertain times, it is nearly impossible to speculate when or if a summer athletics season will commence.
