Coach Fiene was upset about the loss, but ‘proud and grateful’.
The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawk basketball team closed out their season on Wednesday night when they were defeated by an incredibly tough Osage Green Devil squad during the Class 2A Regional Finals game that took place at Garner-Hayfield/Ventura. Headed into the matchup, the E-Hawks were enjoying a 17-5 overall record while the Green Devils were sitting at a pretty 21-2 record.
The girls had a difficult time getting anything going in the first quarter and fell behind 20-7. By halftime though, the girls were able to mount a massive comeback heading into the the midway break down by just eight points after going on a 14-9 run against the Green Devils.
The E-Hawks continued to fight hard all the way through the third quarter only being down by six trailing 43-37. But despite the back and forth action all through the matchup, the girls were unable to get it done and fell 67-60 in what would become the last game of their season.
Osage was able to do some unbelievable things from behind the arc making 100% of the 12 three point shots and also 100% on field goals made and attempted at 22 for 22 during the contest. The Green Devils were also able to make it to the free throw line 13 times and scored 11 of those attempts for a free throw average of 84.6%.
Despite the precise shooting by the Green Devils, the E-Hawks made the last game of their season exciting and well worth the watch. Following the game, Coach Fiene went to Twitter and said,
“Not the outcome that we had hoped for but I’m super proud of the effort that was shown by our girls tonight and all season! I wish I had the magic words to make the disappointment go away. So proud and grateful to be your coach”.
For Lindsay Carter, Hailey Foxhoven, Raven Brown, Gretchen Hofstad, Molly Schany, and Somer Hudson, the six seniors on the team, the hard fought game will be their last as a Lady E-Hawk basketball player. We wish them all the luck in their future endeavors and appreciate the exciting years that they have put into the squad.
