After three 1st place finishes, Emmetsburg Wrestling adds more to their résumé of success.
The Emmetsburg wrestlers headed to Storm Lake on Tuesday, January 21st to compete in the Twin Lakes Conference Meet. In all, 10 schools were represented at the meet to include the cross county neighbors, Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven Ayrshire. The wrestlers continued to pile on the successes that they have enjoyed so far this year landing three of their competitors on the top spot of the podium.
At the 145-pound weight class, Brad Wirtz was able to earn the team a total of 26 points on his way to a 1st place finish against East Sac County’s Dawson Mack who fell due to an injury time. During the semi’s and quarter finals, Wirtz was able to win by way of fall against Logan Crouse of Manson Northwest Webster and Jaydon Maschke of South Central Calhoun.
Next up, Bret Hoyman pinned his way to the top after winning against Michael Auten of West Bend-Mallard, Maxwel Jessen of East Sac County and finally Christopher Krueger of Manson Northwest Webster.
The final top spot was at the 170-pound weight class where Mason Griffin won by pin fall against Taras Tomenchuck of Manson Northwest Webster and then added to wins by decision in the semifinal and 1st place matches. Griffn was able to win against Dave Williams of Sioux Central 8-3 and West Bend-Mallard’s Connor Fehr 9-6.
Other notable contenders for the E-Hawks were Jordan Anderson (285lbs), Sean Brennan (132lbs), and Kelly Griffin (126lbs) taking 2nd. Ryerson Boevers (113lbs), Jon Lace II (195lbs), and Matthew Wirtz (182lbs) all placed 3rd.
When the final matches were tallied up, it was Emmetsburg at the very top of the conference once again with a final earned score of 240.5.

Emmetsburg will be traveling for a two day event at Battle Creek-Ida Grove on Friday, January 24th and Saturday, January 25th to compete in a 28-team invite.
