Arrest Made in Stolen Vehicle Investigation

Several felony and misdemeanor charges following a search warrant and multi-agency investigation.

A Rodman man faces multiple charges as part of an on-going investigation into a stolen vehicle that authorities recovered following a traffic stop.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office earlier this week reported that on January 10, deputies stopped a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck in the 5400 block of 430th Street near Rodman. The pickup had been reported as stolen on November 20 from Wickman’s Auto Salvage near Emmetsburg.

Shortly following the stop, deputies arrested the driver of the pickup, 32-year-old Travis Williams Roberts. Deputies obtained search warrants for the pickup and a Rodman residence.

Roberts was charged with possession of stolen property, first offense, a class C felony; second-degree possession of stolen property, a class D felony; possession of methamphetamine, first offense, a serious misdemeanor; possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor; driving while suspended, a simple misdemeanor; fraudulent use of registration, a simple misdemeanor; and failure to provide proof of insurance, a simple misdemeanor.

Roberts was taken into custody and booked into the Palo Alto County Jail. His bond was set at $25,000.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office announced that Roberts also was charged with dominion or control of a firearm  by a domestic abuse offender, a class D felony. He was charged with that offense while still in jail, according to authorities.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this case by the Algona Police Department, Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Webster County Sheriff’s Office, Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Emmetsburg Police Department and the Palo Alto County Attorney’s Office.
