E-Hawk Wrestlers Still Unbeaten in Dual Competition

Emmetsburg stamps dual championship, 14-0 in dual competition.

In what will be the second to last dual before state competition, the Emmetsburg E-Hawk Wrestling Squad traveled to Rockwell City to take on South Central Calhoun and Manson NW Webster. Coach Tyler Bjustrom and his team remain undefeated in dual competition both this year and last year headed into this test of mental endurance.

Sophomore Nic Lowe (22-17) started the success for the night off right with a victory by fall against South Central Calhoun’s Justin Rohlfing in the 106-pound weight class earning his 16th fall on the season.

Following many back and forth momentum and dropping the 113, 120, and 126-pound matches, Sean Brennan earned 6 points for the E-Hawks after South Central was forced to forfeit. Brad Wirtz (28-6, 22 pins) earned another 6 points for his team after pinning Jaydon Maschke in the 145-pound bout.

Bret Hoyman (46-10, 24 pins, 5 majors) pinned his opponent, Brody Stauter, at the 0:24 mark at the 152-pound weight class. Colton Andersen dropped his match against Blake McAlister just before Mason Griffin continued his dominance (33-8, 17 pins, 4 majors) against Hunter Voith winning by way of pin fall.

The E-Hawks ended up securing a victory against the South Central Calhoun Titans 48-33.

Headed into the final dual of the night for the E-Hawks, the crew would have to face a good Manson Northwest Webster Cougar squad. Opening the final dual, Jordan Anderson (285lbs), Nic Lowe (106lbs), and Ryerson Boevers (113lbs) all earned victories by fall for the E-Hawks going up on the Cougars 18-0.

Manson, refusing to just lie down, put up two victories in the 120-pound and the 126-pound bouts making the score 18-12 after two pins against Lucas Carter and Cade Brown. But the E-Hawks were determined to make a statement and buried the Cougars with four major decisions by Sean Brennan (132lbs; 14-2), Ryan Brennan (138lbs; 13-2), Bret Hoyman (152lbs; 12-3) and Mason Griffin (170lbs; 14-5).

The Cougars had no chance of revival even after winning the final three matches of the night leaving the Emmetsburg E-Hawks to still being undisputed in dual competition with a final score of 46-27.

The wrestlers will be headed to Buena Vista University on January 18th to compete in the Twin Lakes Conference meet with the action ready to begin at 10AM.
