Team sits at 5-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play, Geelan finds his stride
The Emmetsburg E-Hawks boys’ basketball team made a quick trip to West Bend-Mallard High School on Monday night this week to compete in a non-conference matchup against the Wolverines.
Senior big man, Tim Geelan made way for the E-Hawks by scoring the team’s most points with 16 after going 6 of 8 from the field and 4 of 6 from behind the three-point line. Also contributing on the night was sophomore Tyler Morton and senior Zach Foxhoven who both earned 11 points on the night.
Defensively, the E-Hawks couldn’t have shut down the Wolverines much more by limiting the home team to just two points in the entire first quarter. By the sound of the half time buzzer the score was at a comfortable 37-12 in favor of the E-Hawks.
Not much changed in way of luck for the Wolverines in the second half scoring again just two points in the 3rd quarter and allowing 16 to be scored by the E-Hawks. By the start of the 4th quarter, the E-Hawks had already mounted an extremely unlikely chance for a miracle comeback by leading the Wolverines 53-14.
As probability would have it, the E-Hawks closed the game out with the final score of 69-21 making way for the E-Hawks to be sitting at a 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the Twin Lakes Conference. The Wolverines suffered their ninth loss of the year with their record at 1-9 overall.
The E-Hawks will be facing off against a battle hardened South O’Brien Wolverine (9-2) squad on January 16th. The Wolverines of South O’Brien are on a seven game winning streak and this matchup will be quite the test for the E-Hawk boys team.
