Titan Girls End Losing Streak, Boys fall short

GT/RA Titan squads squared off against the Manson NW-Webster Cougars in Conference matchup.

The Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titan basketball squads played host to the Manson NW-Webster Cougars on Friday night splitting the double-header.

The Titan girls basketball team snapped a five game losing streak and earned their first conference win of the season over a struggling Manson NW-Webster team. The offensive struggles were a thing of the past in the first half against the Cougars as the girls went up 34-23 at halftime and never let the Cougars back in it winning this one 50-32 advancing to 3-7 on the season. 

The girls were led by senior Madison Hough on the offensive side of the ball as she put up 20 points and added 7 steals on defense. Sophomore Mackenzie Hoffman added 12 points and an impressive 9 steals on defense. Sophomore Kate Sorenson grabbed 9 rebounds with five being on offense. 

Overall, the Titans grabbed 13 offensive boards leading to second chance points and added a total of 21 steals on the defensive end to put together their first conference win of the season.

The boys team did not come away with a victory against the win-less Cougars despite having good offensive production through three quarters. The Titans went into halftime trailing 30-26 and came out firing in the third quarter taking the lead 44-40 going into the fourth quarter. 

The offense sputtered out at this point as they could only put up 6 points falling to the Cougars 50-53 and dropped to 3-6 on the season.

The Cougars shot 54% from the field en route to their first win of the season as they out rebounded the Titans 30-16. Senior Kadin Norris led the Titans with 15 points, followed by Freshman Max Hough who added 10 points and 7 assists.

The Titan basketball teams will be on the road tonight as they travel to Sioux Central to take on the Rebels with tip-off at 6:00PM for the girls with the boys game to follow.
