E-Hawk Girls Enjoy Continued Success, Boys Earn A Victory in Thriller

Another victory for the E-Hawks on both squads at home.

The Emmetsburg E-Hawk basketball teams played host to the East Sac County Raiders on Friday, January 10th.

The Lady E-Hawks added to their successful season with the final score being 62-28 against the now 3-7 Raiders. Senior Molly Schany continued her successes with her 17 points off of a 6 for 10 in shooting. She added 9 rebounds to the night and went to the free throw line ending with an 80% free throw percentage after making 4 of the 5 attempts.

Assisting the Lady E-Hawk squad, and becoming the team’s lead scorer on the night, was senior Lindsay Carter who was able to go 6 for 11 on shooting and ended the night with 17 points. She also was able to put up a defensive show with four steals.

The girls squad is now able to enjoy a 7-3 season after a Monday night massacre against the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines. At the time of this article’s publishing, the girls score ended on the cold and snowy January 13th night at 73-33 in the favor of the E-Hawks. The girls will look to another matchup this week in South O’Brien on January 16th.

The boys also played in the double-header on January 10th against the East Sac County Raiders. The boys team rebounded from a loss against Southeast Valley on January 7th in an absolute nail biter. The boys squad was able to claim a victory at home with the final score of 47-45.

Headed into the fourth quarter ahead of the Raiders 31-28 and despite a 17-16 fourth quarter, the E-Hawks were able to maintain their lead at the final buzzer taking the boys to a 4-5 record on the year.

Junior Ben Dunlap led the E-Hawks in scoring and in rebounds earning a double-double at 16 points and 10 rebounds. Dunlap was able to earn an 81.8% free throw percentage after going 9 for 11 on the night. Colby Weir was also able to put on a show going 5 for 11 inside the lines and went 4 for 10 from the trey and was able to celebrate a 15-point night.

The boys also played against the West Bend-Mallard team on January 13th, but stats have not been posted for the game at the time of this articles publishing. The boys team will also be traveling on January 16th in hopes to continue their way to a victory against a good 8-2 South O’Brien Wolverine squad.
