E-Hawks couldn’t spoil the perfect season of the Pioneers, boys’ fall to 3-5 on the season
The unbeaten Okoboji Pioneer girls’ basketball team and their 5-5 boys’ team hosted the Emmetsburg E-Hawk squads last night in Okoboji.
In the girls’ matchup, senior Molly Schany was able to secure another double-double on the year going for 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Pioneers were able to limit the amount of shots on target and many of the other E-Hawk members couldn’t quite get the shots to fall. Molly was 6/11 on the night, but she was the only Lady E-Hawk to have attempted more than 10 shots. The team made just 4 of the 23 three point shot attempts and earned a 29.5% field goal percentage on the night.
The Pioneers were also able to control the game under the hoop by doubling the amount of E-Hawk rebounds with 22 rebounds for the E-Hawks and 46 for the Pioneers. Those weren’t the only woes that were inflicted, though, with the E-Hawks giving up 15 turn overs on the night and only a 45.5% free throw percentage compared to the 75% that the Pioneers were able to secure.
All of this led to a Lady E-Hawk defeat with a final score of 58-35.
The boys’ squad suffered similar woes last night being defeated 72-52. Junior Ben Dunlap led the team in scoring with 14 points on the night going 6 for 10 on field goals and 1 for 3 from behind the arc.
The team was successful in getting to the free throw line 10 times and only missed two earning an 80% free throw percentage. The boys were also able to reel in 22 rebounds, 14 of which came from the defensive side of the ball.
Both teams will be competing again tonight against East Sac County at home. The girls are now 5-3 on the season while the boys 3-5.
