Turnovers and offensive woes prove too much for Titans against East Sac
The Graettinger/Terril girls’ basketball team traveled to face the unbeaten Raiders of East Sac County on Friday night and the offensive struggles continued. After putting up only two points in the first quarter, they went into halftime behind 23-11. They scored less than ten points in each of the first three quarters and outscored the Raiders 13-8 in the final quarter, but fell short in the end with the Titans falling to the Raiders 44-32.
The Titans were led by Sophomore Mackenzie Hoffman who put up 8 points and added two assists. A major contributing factor in this one was the amount of fouls for the Titans as they committed 17; the Raiders committed zero. In addition to the fouling woes suffered by the Titans, they also had 18 turnovers in the matchup.
The night did not go much better for the boys’ basketball team as they struggled to keep up with the offensive scoring production of the East Sac Raiders. The Raiders came off the tip with their shots on target putting up 17 in the first quarter and 16 in the second giving them a 23 point lead at halftime with the score set at 33-10.
The second half was a completely different story as both teams put up 37 points each in the next two quarters, but the scoring came too late as the boys could not overcome the first half woes.
Kory Hough led the Titans in scoring with 13 points, followed by Blake Rosacker and Kadin Norris who put up seven points each. Max Hough led on defense grabbing six defensive boards and five steals, yet the rebounding difference between the two teams says enough about the outcome of this one as the Raiders grabbed 21 more rebounds, eight of those being on offense. This game came to a close with a score of 70-47 in favor of East Sac.
The GT/RA girls will head into winter break with a record of 2-6 overall and 0-4 in conference play as they have dropped their last four. The boys drop to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play as they head into the break.
Both Titan teams will come back to the court in 2020 as they head to Estherville on January 7th for a double-header against the Midgets with a start time of 6:00PM for the girl’s game and the boys to follow.
