Girls advance to 5-2 on the season, boys fall to 3-4 before Holiday Break
The Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawks and their boys’ basketball team traveled to South Central Calhoun Middle School on December 20th.
In the girls’ matchup, the Lady E-Hawks were able to dominate the Titans by a score of 67-37. Senior Molly Schany led the team in points with 12 on the night (6RBD; 6/10FT) in the victory while her counterpart Abbie Schany added 9 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Raven Brown also produced a good showing scoring 10 points for the girls and was 3 for 4 from the free throw line.
The Titans were only able to outscore the Lady E-Hawks in the first quarter going for 10 points to the E-Hawks 7. But heading into a tied game at 17-17 at the half, the girls came out swinging going for a total of 50 points in the second half combined and limiting the Lady Titans to just 20.
The boys’ basketball team met a different fate in their defeat. The boys are now at a 3-4 record on the season and will be going up against a 5-3 Okoboji Pioneer team. Coach Bill Geelan had posted on his Twitter account that the guys just couldn’t seem to get the ball to fall when it was important, but was proud of how his group has been performing in the first half of the season.
The girls’ squad will be traveling to Okoboji as well to face off an unbeaten 9-0 Okoboji girls squad who have been showing off their success in the Siouxland Conference will be put to the test against the Lady E-Hawks.
Those games will be held after the Holiday Break on January 9th, 2020.
