Girls hope to continue success while boys hope to change history in tonight’s matchup
The 2-1 Lady E-Hawks and the 1-2 boys’ E-Hawk teams will be traveling to Storm Lake tonight, December 10, to take on the 0-3 girls and the 1-1 boys’ Storm Lake Tornadoes teams.
The Lady E-Hawks, coming off of a 54-43 victory against the Spencer Tigers yesterday, will be headed into this match up hoping to continue their successful stretch of victories that they are mounting together. Historically, the Lady E-Hawks have been a major issue to the Storm Lake Tornado squad having won against them 17 out of the 22 times they have met. In fact, the Tornadoes haven’t won against the Lady E-Hawks since February 2, 2010.
Senior Molly Schany is the team’s points leader with 20 points per game. She has been 12/16 from the free throw line as well with a free throw percentage of 75% on the season and is sitting at a comfortable 63.2% field goal percentage. Defensively, Molly has been a tyrant to teams below the hoop by reeling in a team high of 27 rebounds and has forced four steals on the year as well.
Junior Maddy Meuller has been a big help to the team as well. Meuller has been able to show her support by providing the team high 14 assists and 15 rebounds in the early parts of the season. Meuller has also been able to snag five steals on the year.
Abbie Schany has been trying to find her groove this year mounting an eight points per game average and a 14.3% field goal percentage. Defensively, Abbie has been able to secure 22 rebounds and 5 steals on the year, but has also been able to assist her team in scoring by dishing the ball to a scoring player 12 times on the season.
On the flip side of the night, the boys’ E-Hawk squad will be matching up against a team that has caused them significant issues in the past. Although junior Ben Dunlap is playing lights out averaging a 21.5 points per game figure and a 54.2% field goal percentage, the boys’ Tornado team has mounted a 10 game winning streak over the years with the E-Hawks having last won against the Tornadoes on December 17, 2013.
Besides Dunlap, the E-Hawks have been able to rely on a solid performer in Sean Europa. The freshman who in his two games with the team, has a 54.5% field goal percentage and an eight points per game average. Lex Kassel has been able to gain a nine points per game average and a 44.4% field goal percentage. Kassel has also been able to secure 12 rebounds for the team and has dished out seven assists.
The Storm Lake boys Tornado team has allowed at least 80 points in the two games they’ve played this season. The E-Hawks will be hoping to capitalize on the lackluster defensive performance that the Tornadoes have shown in order to even out their overall record to 2-2.
Action starts tonight in Storm Lake at 6:15pm with the Lady E-Hawks tipping off and at 7:45pm with the boys.
