Madison and Max Hough will be a focus for both E-Hawk squads.
Coming off of their season opener loss against Cherokee Washington, both the Emmetsburg boys’ and girls’ basketball teams will be traveling to the Ruthven-Ayrshire school and hit the court against the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titans.
In a heartbreaking overtime defeat against the Braves on December 3, the girls squad will be out for vengeance. With only two previous match-ups, G-T/R-A had defeated the Lady E-Hawks last season 51-47. The Titans are coming off a big victory against the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines where they sent a message with a 53-26 final score.
Titan Madison Hough is averaging 24.5 points per game and is making about half of her shots with a field goal percentage set at 48.6%. The well-rounded Titan squad had a solid performance defensively against the Wolverines reeling in 23 of the 27 rebounds on the defensive side of the ball.
The Lady E-Hawks will have their hands full and will hope to show a lot of the same defensive play that they showed against the Cherokee Washington team. Offensively though, the girls will need to make the shots taken outside of the arc after making only 1 of the 13 attempts on Tuesday. The Titans will have to remember, however, that the E-Hawks are not the same team as the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines. The matchup should prove to be a showdown against two good squads in the reading area.
Now for the boys’ team. Having dropped their game to the Cherokee Washington Braves with a final score of 52-43, the E-Hawks will look to even out there 0-1 record against the 1-0 Titans. Ben Dunlap, who scored 15 points on Tuesday, will be able to rely on his junior counterpart Lex Kassel and his senior leader Zach Foxhoven for assistance in rebounding as they were able to secure 7 rebounds each for the team who ended with 31 on the night.
Graettinger-Terril boys’ team are coming off of a 51-34 victory against the West Bend-Mallard Wolverine squad as well. Historically sitting at a 2-0 record against the E-Hawks, freshman Max Hough will prove to cause some issues for the E-Hawk squad. The newcomer had a 20-point night on Tuesday and just missed a double-double with 9 total rebounds.
Action for this match-up will begin with the girls tipping off at 6:00pm and the boys starting at 8:00pm.
