GT/RA was plagued by forfeitures in defeat against Spencer, Okoboji.
Trayton Cacek continues his unbeaten streak as he earned his 1ooth win with a pin fall over Okoboji’s Cody Wintz thirty seconds into the start of the dual season for Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire.
This win was one of the three wins for GT/RA as they faced Okoboji. The other two wins awarded to Clayton Schroeder(Fall 0:52) and Spencer Roth(0:46), who both recorded falls midway through the first period of their respective matches. GTRA gave up 30 points to Okoboji by way of forfeit, however, and also lost three more matches by fall, two by decision and one by major decision which brought the final score to 58-18 in favor of Okoboji.
In the Titans second dual of the night, they earned wins in four matches. Three of these wins came by way of fall through Cacek (2:40), Roth (1:14), and Cade Stearns (3:05), and the final one was a decision over Calvin Tighe of Spencer (12-6). Despite the wins by the Titans, this dual ended with a final score of 60-21 in favor of the Spencer Tigers.
In statements by Head Coach Alex Helmich, he mentioned there were some technical things that needed to be worked on, but overall he was very happy with the chance to get out on the mat and get the younger wrestlers some experience. Coach Helmich was said that he was also impressed with many of the young wrestlers as well as his veterans.
With two of GT/RA’s veteran wrestlers have already signed with colleges to wrestle at the next level, Cacek going to Northern State University and Spencer Roth to Cornell University, the biggest problem for this team may be having to overcome the open weight classes. They expect to fill a few of those open classes by the end of the season.
GT/RA will head to the Okoboji Invitational this Saturday December 7, with a dual meet the following week on December 12.
