Accident sends two to Palo Alto County Hospital

An accident shortly before 2 a.m. December 1st sent two people to Palo Alto County Hospital with minor injuries.

The Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office reported that at at 1:44 a.m. it responded to a single vehicle accident in the 3400 block of 460th Avenue.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Michael Murphy, of Emmetsburg, was driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee west on a private driveway.

As the Jeep approached the 460th Avenue intersection, Murphy reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The Jeep continued past the intersection, went through the ditch and came to a stop in a field.

A passenger in the front seat and a passenger in the back seat both reported minor injuries, the Sheriff’s Office stated. Palo Alto County Ambulance Service transported both to the Palo Alto County Hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office reported the Jeep sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage.

Harding was cited for failure to maintain control and reduce speed.

The Emmetsburg Police Department, Emmetsburg Fire Department and Palo Alto County Ambulance Service assisted the sheriff’s office at the scene.
