Despite a few reported injuries, excitement is high to display talents
The Emmetsburg E-Hawks enter their first round of competition tonight as they travel to face off in the season opener team duals against host Storm Lake, Sioux Central, Pocahontas Area, and local team West Bend-Mallard.
Returning Class 1A Coach of the Year, Tyler Bjustrom, says that his team is excited to face off against opponents other than their own teammates. Save for a few nagging injuries, he is optimistic about what his team is going to be able to achieve this year having moved up to Class 2A during the off season.
“We are a little banged up at the moment”, Bjustrom said. “But that presents some opportunities for our younger athletes”.
Last year, the E-Hawks started their season against the same opponents in the season opener. They dominated all of the other teams by no less than 70.0 points topping Sioux Central and West Bend-Mallard 78.0-6.0 and Pocahontas Area 76.0-6.0.
It has been 290 days that wrestlers and fans have been without this team being on the mat. The excitement about this year, having seen so much success last year, is palpable. Coach Bjustrom told us before the November 18 practice date that now that his athletes have had that taste of success, he is eager to get them back out on the mat to prove once again that they are a team to be reckoned with.
“We finally get a chance to go compete against another team and our kids are excited about that”, Bjustrom said.
Action at Storm Lake begins at 6:00pm tonight. Coverage of the meet can be found right back here at IowaIndependentNews.com.
