Graettinger-Terril Wrestling Preview

Coach Alex Helmich and the Titan squad return to the mats.

Head Graettinger-Terril wrestling coach Alex Helmich and his Titans will be on the hunt of another season to claim pride in the Palo Alto area community. Having sent three of his wrestlers to the big show at Wells Fargo Arena last season, the excitement to see if more of the team can make it builds.

Treyton Cacek who was able to secure an amazing 46-0 record in his junior season and, following a nail biter of a semi-final match that went to tie-breakers at the State Meet before winning it all in his weight class, will be out for much of the same in this year’s bouts. Wrestling at the 170-pound category, Cacek was able to win the 1st place match against Western Christian’s Tristan Mulder after the decision of 7-4 was completed.

Also returning to the mats this year are Carter Murray and Spencer Roth for their final seasons as Titans. Murray, who went 39-6 in his junior season, was also able to compete in the State Wrestling tournament losing by decision in the 3rd place match against Belmond-Klemme’s Tucker Kroeze. Roth fell short of being able to roll under the lights but completed his season with a respectable record of 36-6. At the District Meet, Roth secured the 3rd place win against Dylan Marker of Central Springs with a fall win. Headed up against Emmetsburg’s Mason Griffin in the 2nd place match got the best of Roth after losing by a decision of 11-7. Griffin went on to claim the 2nd place spot in the State Meet.

Having graduated nine of the seniors and returning an already battle tested group, Titans fans will be able to expect some fireworks from the season and maybe a spot at the top of the conference.
