The Emmetsburg Lady E’Hawks fell to the Osage Green Devils in straight sets.
Heading into the Class 2A- Region 2 Championship game, the Emmetsburg volleyball team had been enjoying a three game win streak and a 3-1 victory over the Pocahontas Area School District during the Regional semi-final game. The stage was set for Emmetsburg to upset the top ranked Green Devils, but Osage wasn’t going to fold without a fight.
Having shut down the E’Hawks in all three consecutive sets, Osage walked away the victor and was crowned the Class 2A- Region 2 Champions and solidified their placement into the Iowa State Volleyball Championship. The E’Hawks fell short and produced a 25-14, 25-9, and a 25-10 showing in the best of five match.
With the end of the season now here, the E’Hawks will be without nine seniors next year, but will be returning four juniors and one lights out sophomore. The end of the season came swiftly, but incredible memories and achievements had been secured.
Individually, sophomore Raegan Swanson set the team high in serves and serve efficiency with 337 of 385 to equal a 0.875 efficiency rating. Senior Gretchen Hofstad was successful in recording a total of 10 blocks and 570 assists far outstretching the nearest teammate by 465 and was able to tie a Twin Lakes best with 48 assists in a single match on October 1st. Earlier in the year, senior Molly Schany was also able to set a Twin Lakes Conference “Best Single Match” record in kills with 24 on September 24th when facing off against Alta-Aurelia and had achieved the 1,000 career kill mark during the month of October.
The volleyball team enjoyed a 20-12 record, maintained a .160 kill efficiency, scored off of 191 aces, and averaged 2.2 aces per set.
